What a page-turner of a day! 📚 Our 5th graders headed to the Champaign County Library today for the Battle of the Books. To prepare for this event, students had to master the details of over 20 different books. During the competition, they were challenged to identify titles based on complex questions—a true test of their memory and teamwork! We are so incredibly proud of our students, who demonstrated exactly what it means to be Accountable Leaders and Creative Problem Solvers. Our two 5th-grade teams both made it to the championship round, making it an all-Burg finale! 🏆 Congratulations to our readers for their hard work and for representing our school with such pride and academic grit.

🐝 The buzz was back at DWE! We recently brought back our Spelling Bee for grades K-5, and it was such a joy to see our students' bravery in action. These "Burg" spellers shined as Courageous Characters and Confident Communicators. They showed true grit by stepping up to the challenge and modeled what it means to be Accountable Leaders by working hard to prepare. We are so proud of every student who participated and can’t wait to keep this tradition going next year! 🏆

We wanted to take a moment to share a very special celebration from a couple of weeks ago that truly highlights the heart of DWE. For our final Student of the Month ceremony of the school year, we honored our Most Improved students. This category celebrates the grit, perseverance, and growth that define our "Burg" spirit. These students modeled the competencies in our Portrait of a Graduate blueprint. As Courageous Characters, they didn’t give up when things got tough, and as Creative Problem Solvers, they showed us the power of learning from mistakes and constantly striving to improve. Whether it was an academic breakthrough or a shift in mindset, their hard work over the course of the year has been incredible to witness. While this was our last celebration for the year, it was the perfect note to end on. We are so proud of these students and are already looking forward to celebrating even more of our amazing students next year! Congratulations to our April honorees! 💜🏆
