Did you know that Mechanicsburg High School has 38 Business Professionals of America (BPA) student members? BPA is a national, co-curricular, career/technical organization for students in middle school and high school. Through BPA, Mechanicsburg students compete at the regional, state, and national levels in Workplace Skills Assessment Program events, engage in community and leadership service activities, develop the skill competencies for business careers, and meet business students across the state and country.
BPA is known for their Workplace Skill Assessment Program (WSAP) that includes a variety of student opportunities such as Finance, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Digital Communication and Design, Management, Marketing and Communication, and Health Administration. Through the WSAP, Mechanicsburg students put our Portrait of a Graduate skills and competencies to practice, earning individual recognition at the district level in addition to competing against programs in our region and state. BPA allows our students to exercise their communication skills, show accountability and productivity, think critically to solve problems, and show empathy and character as they design products and services to meet the needs of customers. For a more specific example, several of our BPA students currently work with an application called Gipper, to produce the digital media you may have noticed this year on social media for our many programs and athletic teams. These students could easily compete in a variety of Digital Communication and Design challenges!
BPA also pairs well with our students, many of whom are already entrepreneurs, small business owners, and future business men and women. The district is launching a BPA series highlighting student and alumni business owners/operators.
